Welcome to South Oceanside, known to locals as South O’, one of Oceanside’s truly unique beach communities.
South Oceanside is located between Oceanside Boulevard, I-5 and historical Highway 101 now Pacific Coast Highway and at one time was actually North Carlsbad. The atmosphere here is always warm (and I don’t mean the weather, although its true for that as well) and laid back as it is filled with families that have had been in Oceanside for generations. Experiencing a renaissance, several new families relocating to South O’ are changing the demographic for the better. Coastal Oceanside is still one of the last affordable beach communities in Southern California. Homes for sale in South Oceanside range from the high $600’s for an original style Potter home to well over a million for a remodeled home with a granny flat or rental unit.
Surfing, skateboarding, walking and bike riding have always been the most popular pastimes here. Many evenings during the summer you will see the 7:30 western migration as people head down Cassidy Street to see the sunset. You will also see neighbors out for their morning jogs or heading to their pilates or yoga session at one of the local studios.
South Oceanside is also very pet friendly and a great area for dog walks. South O’s elementary school anchors the four legged community as an unofficial dog park.
While there are several nigh lunch and dinner spots like breweries, farm to table restaurants, pizza, mexican and more, none of these can be considered the King.
Beach Break Cafe dominates the restaurant scene on the Coast Highway in South Oceanside, but there are several great breakfast restaurants to serve you. Come hungry, but on the weekends be prepared to wait.
During the week is for locals. Void of all the visitor and tourists, South Oceanside slows back down and neighbors get to enjoy their neighborhood.
New families and residences, increasing home values and wonderful new establishments like the new cafes, boutiques, coffee shops, surf shops and skate shops are putting South O’ and Oceanside back on the map as a premier coastal community.
